Our Love Story

The day I met Kenny Owens, will be a day I will NEVER forget! It was in June of 2004; June 19th to be exact! I was going through a tough time in my life & needed to just get out! So...a couple of my friends/cousins & I decided to ride to, what was then, Gametime to "parking lot pimp" LOL! "Parking lot pimp" is what we did when we decided to just "chill" in the parking lot of the club and not go in! I know...sounds a little crazy...but that's what we did when I was 19 years old LOL!! First of all, I have never been the type of girl to “holla” at a dude, but this particular night, I was in rare form & was having so much fun! So, I spotted this SUPER CUTE, light-skinned dude with braids that had on a green jersey! I was determined to get “the boy in the green jersey” phone number & was not leaving Greenville until I got it!! Long story short, I got his number in the parking lot of Gametime & we became friends. We went on one date & that was it! We were just what I said…friends...no more, no less! We carried on this friendship for about three years off & on...I thought he was one of the best friends I’d ever had! We talked about EVERYTHING! In October of 2007, I ran into Kenny in his uncle’s club, Alley Gator’s. We had not talked or seen each other in a long time! I agreed to go visit him one Saturday night after that just to “chill” & that “chill” turned into something serious! I never expected it to go as far as it did, but you cannot run from true love when it finds you. We started out “talking” & made it “official” on January 18, 2008. A couple of weeks shy of our 4 year anniversary, Kenny asked me to be his wife! Another day I will NEVER forget…December 25, 2011…a very special Christmas Day!!! I wrote the following words in a poem to Kenny ("Kay") for Valentine’s Day in 2008 that sums up the love I have for the Love of My Life, my fiance: “…The key to my heart,I thought I threw away. Some how, some way you got it, And now I’m here to stay. I almost missed out…The thought brings chills over me. But timing and patience,I learned is the key. One last time, I’ve fallen in love. But this time I truly believe You’re my angel sent from above.”

The Month of March...So Full of Activities!!!

A lot of things took place during the month of March; even the most exciting thing of my wedding planning.  On March 12th, the Monday after the fitting, I went by The Castle for two reasons: 1) to get the ship date of my girls’ dresses & 2) to give Brooke (my Bridal Consultant) a letter & gift of appreciation!  I personalized a makeup bag & a luggage tag for Brooke as a small appreciation gift.  She worked so hard on that Saturday on getting the girls fitted & helping my mom find a dress; not to mention everything that I had put her through before the fitting LOL!  I think she definitely deserved a gift!  Well…when I walked in the door…she told me that she had the most surprising news ever!  I was anxious to hear what she had to tell me…I thought it was going to be something about my girls’ dresses, but it wasn’t.  What she told me was the last thing I was expecting her to tell me…she told me that MY dress had came in!!! OMG…I did not believe what she was telling me!  When she unzipped that bag & I saw my dress…I felt something I had never felt before…it was the best feeling I have ever had!  All of the girls in the store were anxious for me to try it on, but I told them that I’d be back later with my mom!  I had got off of work early that day to go pay my car taxes, so I knew I had plenty of time to get my mom & get back to Spartanburg!  I cried all the way from Spartanburg to Gray Court...all tears of joy!  I finally got home to tell my mom the dress was in & we had to go get it.  She had not saw the dress in person yet, so I could not wait for her to see it on my!  I also called my mother-in-law & asked her if would go.  She said yes!  So, my mom & I met my mother-in-law, Shanell, Dee, & Shalaiya at The Castle!  My sisters had already seen it in person, so they chose not to go with us.  It was such a touching moment…I enjoyed every second of it!  I took the dress straight to my Aunt Shirley’s house when we left the bridal shop!  What a wonderful Monday was that day!!!

On Friday, March 2nd, I ordered the dresses for Somaya & Kamaiya (my bridal announcers).  A shop in Florida is making their dresses.  I supposed to receive the dresses at the beginning of May.  I hope they be as pretty as I picture them to be!!!  Only a couple more weeks to go & I’ll know!!!

Also, in the month of March, my parents announced our engagement in the newspapers!  We put an announcement in The Greenville News & in The Laurens Advertiser; that way, both families would be able to see it.  It published in The Greenville News on Sunday, March 11th.  The link to our page in the Greenville News is here… http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=CELEBRATIONS0101&announcementID=3195.

The same announcement, worded a little differently, was published in the Laurens Advertiser on Wednesday, March 14th.  This particular week was just full of exciting things…Vernice Hammett brought our Engagement Photo Album to me on Wednesday, March 14th & our Save the Dates delivered to my house on Thursday, March 15th!  I absolutely loved the album & the Save the Dates!!!

Let’s see…what else happened in March???  Oh yea…I ordered all of my maids of honor, matrons of honor, & bridesmaids shoes!  I received the Maids & Matrons shoes on the 20th & the Bridesmaids shoes on the 26th.  Of course…I had a dilemma with the shoes.  One of my sister’s (Faith) shoes was all the way wrong!  She received two left shoes, two different sizes…LOL!  I nicely sent them back to Dillard's & had them to send me the right shoes.  I can’t wait to see the shoes with the dresses…anxiously & patiently awaiting my girls’ dresses to come in!!!

On Thursday, March 22nd, I met Shanell, Mama June (my mother-in-law), & Shalaiya at David’s Bridal.  We went to David’s Bridal to find Mama June a dress….too exciting!!!  After a couple of “no’s & yes’s) to some dresses, Mama finally found one that she liked!  Both of our mothers are going to be a “knock out” on September 8th!!!

Ok…now that I’m caught up on March…I’ll try my best to keep this blog up to date between wedding planning LOL!
