Our Love Story

The day I met Kenny Owens, will be a day I will NEVER forget! It was in June of 2004; June 19th to be exact! I was going through a tough time in my life & needed to just get out! So...a couple of my friends/cousins & I decided to ride to, what was then, Gametime to "parking lot pimp" LOL! "Parking lot pimp" is what we did when we decided to just "chill" in the parking lot of the club and not go in! I know...sounds a little crazy...but that's what we did when I was 19 years old LOL!! First of all, I have never been the type of girl to “holla” at a dude, but this particular night, I was in rare form & was having so much fun! So, I spotted this SUPER CUTE, light-skinned dude with braids that had on a green jersey! I was determined to get “the boy in the green jersey” phone number & was not leaving Greenville until I got it!! Long story short, I got his number in the parking lot of Gametime & we became friends. We went on one date & that was it! We were just what I said…friends...no more, no less! We carried on this friendship for about three years off & on...I thought he was one of the best friends I’d ever had! We talked about EVERYTHING! In October of 2007, I ran into Kenny in his uncle’s club, Alley Gator’s. We had not talked or seen each other in a long time! I agreed to go visit him one Saturday night after that just to “chill” & that “chill” turned into something serious! I never expected it to go as far as it did, but you cannot run from true love when it finds you. We started out “talking” & made it “official” on January 18, 2008. A couple of weeks shy of our 4 year anniversary, Kenny asked me to be his wife! Another day I will NEVER forget…December 25, 2011…a very special Christmas Day!!! I wrote the following words in a poem to Kenny ("Kay") for Valentine’s Day in 2008 that sums up the love I have for the Love of My Life, my fiance: “…The key to my heart,I thought I threw away. Some how, some way you got it, And now I’m here to stay. I almost missed out…The thought brings chills over me. But timing and patience,I learned is the key. One last time, I’ve fallen in love. But this time I truly believe You’re my angel sent from above.”

Engagement Pictures!

On Saturday, February 11, Kay and I took our engagement pictures.  Do not think I am crazy, but I have known for about two years now that Matthew & Vernice Hammett is whom I wanted to take my pictures when I got married!  The Hammetts were the photographers at one my of close friends’ (Loren Oyervides) wedding.  Matt, Vernice, Chad, & Loren have been close friends since the Oyervides’ wedding!  They have taken so many pictures for them and I just thought they were AWESOME from day one.  After a few quotes from a few photographers, I decided to go with the Hammetts for our photographers; I think this is one of the best decisions I have made since we have started the wedding planning!  To me, the photographer and the videographer are some of the most important people of “Our Big Day!”  I am not going to see the wedding for one & there are going to be so many things that Kay & I do not remember on that day, so I wanted to be sure that we have something good to go back on!  I have not chose a videographer yet, but my photographers are signed, sealed, & delivered!!!

So, Kay & I spent our Saturday afternoon, of February 11th, with Matthew & Vernice Hammett! We met them at 3:45 p.m. at ___?____.  I am going to leave that blank for now, because I want everyone (that do not know already) to be surprised at the place we took our first set of pictures!  It was fun, fun, fun! :-)  After we left the first location, we took off to downtown Greenville to  Falls Park.  It was FREEZING that day; probably the coldest day of the year so far (temperatures in the upper 30s), but we made the best of it!  Matt & Vernice shared a “sneak peek” with us and we are anxious to see the rest!

The Hammetts makes the best "husband + wife team" & we are so grateful to have them as our photographers!  Thanks Matt & Vernice for spending your Saturday afternoon with us!  We can’t wait to share the rest of our very special moments with you!!!

Wedding Festival - Fun, Fun, Fun!

After a much needed, 2 hour conversation with my BFF (thanks Jack!)...I decided I would catch-up on my blog a little!  Yes, it is a Friday night and I am home blogging...my Future Husband is at work. :(

So...what else have I done in the last couple of weeks?  Believe it or not, I have been doing other things besides looking for the "perfect" dresses for my girls!  On February 4th, my Mom, Kayla, Alicia, & I decided to attend the Wedding Festival that was held at the TD Convention Center in Greenville, SC.  I paid for parking ($5) and for everyone to get into the festival ($9 per person).  It was so worth it!   There were so many people there, I could not believe it; tons of vendors, brides, grooms, and others.  The majority of the vendors that were there were photographers and videographers.  There were others, like cake bakers, venue owners, caterers, florists, bridal stores, tuxedo rentals, jewelry sellers, and many, many more.  At the end of the day, I was tired, but we had so much fun; I really enjoyed it!!

Busy, Busy, Busy...

Where have I been?!?!  Busy, busy, busy & I so need to catch up on my blogging!  In the last couple of weeks, I have accomplished a few things; I have scheduled the fitting for all of the girls in the wedding, I have booked my reception venue, & Kay and I have taken our engagement photos!

January 14th was the first “fun day” of my wedding planning!  I was anxious to go to the Alfred Angelo store in Atlanta, GA!  So, Kayla crank up the ‘Nata (that’s what she calls her car by the way LOL) & said let’s go!!  Kayla, Shanell, Tab, & I all went to “the A” to try on some dresses.  Well…they thought that I was going to try on dresses…little did they know I had some dresses for them to try on as well!  That was definitely a fun day & I appreciate them so much for doing that for me; it meant a lot to me!  Since January 14th, some of my girls have probably tried on 50 dresses LOL!  Thanks Loren, Jackie, Tab, Shanell, & Kayla…I know I’m working y’all nerve!  Not to even mention what I have done to poor Brooke (my Bridal Consultant) and Robin at The Castle in Spartanburg, SC…I am definitely going to owe them when this is all over!  They are being so patient with me & I love them for that.  I could not ask for better bridal consultants!  I did not realize that the bridesmaids dresses were going to be one of my hardest decisions.  Guess what?!  I still haven’t finalized my decision, but I am confident that I am going to have this decision made by March 10 (the day they go for their fitting) LOL!

A couple of days after that, January 18th, Kay & I celebrated our 4th and final dating anniversary…”An Ending to a New Beginning!”  First, we exchanged gifts & I could not believe what I got...an iPad II!!!  Can you say excited?!?!?!  I absolutely LOVE my iPad & it has made my wedding planning so much easier!  I bought Kay dog tags that I had engraved.  On one side, it says "Ending To..." & on the other it says "New Beginning! 01-18-2012".  I also bought him an iPhone IV & some accessories to go with it!  He loved his gift also!  We spent the day doing things for the wedding.  We visited the Commerce Club downtown Greenville to take a look at for the wedding reception & we also went to Couture Cakes of Greenville for cake tasting!  That cake was so good!  We finished the day by going to one of our favorite restaurants; California Dreaming in Greenville, SC!  What a way to celebrate a final, dating anniversary!
