Our Love Story

The day I met Kenny Owens, will be a day I will NEVER forget! It was in June of 2004; June 19th to be exact! I was going through a tough time in my life & needed to just get out! So...a couple of my friends/cousins & I decided to ride to, what was then, Gametime to "parking lot pimp" LOL! "Parking lot pimp" is what we did when we decided to just "chill" in the parking lot of the club and not go in! I know...sounds a little crazy...but that's what we did when I was 19 years old LOL!! First of all, I have never been the type of girl to “holla” at a dude, but this particular night, I was in rare form & was having so much fun! So, I spotted this SUPER CUTE, light-skinned dude with braids that had on a green jersey! I was determined to get “the boy in the green jersey” phone number & was not leaving Greenville until I got it!! Long story short, I got his number in the parking lot of Gametime & we became friends. We went on one date & that was it! We were just what I said…friends...no more, no less! We carried on this friendship for about three years off & on...I thought he was one of the best friends I’d ever had! We talked about EVERYTHING! In October of 2007, I ran into Kenny in his uncle’s club, Alley Gator’s. We had not talked or seen each other in a long time! I agreed to go visit him one Saturday night after that just to “chill” & that “chill” turned into something serious! I never expected it to go as far as it did, but you cannot run from true love when it finds you. We started out “talking” & made it “official” on January 18, 2008. A couple of weeks shy of our 4 year anniversary, Kenny asked me to be his wife! Another day I will NEVER forget…December 25, 2011…a very special Christmas Day!!! I wrote the following words in a poem to Kenny ("Kay") for Valentine’s Day in 2008 that sums up the love I have for the Love of My Life, my fiance: “…The key to my heart,I thought I threw away. Some how, some way you got it, And now I’m here to stay. I almost missed out…The thought brings chills over me. But timing and patience,I learned is the key. One last time, I’ve fallen in love. But this time I truly believe You’re my angel sent from above.”

Did the Potential Bridesmaids Say Yes?!

So…did all of my bridesmaids say yes???  Yes they did!  To show them how thankful I was of them agreeing to spend such a special day with Kay & me; I gave them a small gift of appreciation!  By the way…notice that I will call Kenny “Kay” throughout the blog.  The night I met him, I asked him could I call him “Kay” for short & he said yes!  So, I’ve been calling him Kay every since that day!

I gave each bridesmaid their own, personal makeup bag, a personalized planner, a small notepad with a Bible Scripture, & included a letter!

GET READY…..GET SET….GO!!! TIME TO START PLANNING!!!

So…we have set a wedding date for September 8, 2012.  2012???  Yes, I said 2012!!! In which, means that I only have 8 months to plan a wedding and I am about to be minus 1 month already; is January really almost over?!  Ok Ash…time is moving & it is not going to slow down for you!  Ok…I’m on it!  Well…we do have our wedding party finalized….step # 1!  I’ve always known that we were either going to have to have a big wedding or a small wedding….NO IN-BETWEEN!  So, guess what we decided on???  BIG!!!  We have a wedding party of 44 people.  Woo…a lot of people right?!  It still don’t top my sister’s wedding party of 54 haha (Faye...you still get the prize for the biggest wedding party ever)!  Why so many people?  I'm glad you asked!  Kay and I both are a part of big families.  Just to give you an idea of how big, both of my parents have 14 siblings (which means I have 28 aunts and uncles) and Kay's dad has 8 siblings.  Kay's mom has 5 siblings.  So, how could we not have a big wedding party?!

First things first…will all of my bridesmaids say yes?!  Well, of course they will (fingers crossed)……

Christmas 2011...Part II Continued

Christmas 2011....Part II

So...Kenny had a "part II" of my Christmas gift & totally surprised me!  After exchanging gifts, he told me that he had brought some champagne and glasses for us to make a toast to my parents.  Huh???!!!  Ok...that was totally strange, even though it crossed my mind for a sec, I still didn't think he was going to propose!  I never expected him to propose on a holiday & I really did not expect him to do it in front of anybody!  So...I just said ok!  Keep in mind, it was Christmas Day & my entire family was at my house for Christmas dinner!  After the blessing of the food...Kenny made a toast to my parents AAANNNDDD.................. :)

Christmas 2011...

I so look forward to Christmas with Kenny every year...I love opening the wonderful gifts that he buys for me!  I can always expect a lot from him & vise versa!  Our sisters always ask us what is it left for us to buy each other, but there's always something!  This year, I decided to buy Kenny a touchscreen, navigation system for his truck.  I also finished a picture book that I had started for the both of us.  He bought me an outfit, some cowboy boots, & a Gucci Guilty perfume set!
